Knit yourself a large, 4-color shawl, inspired by log cabin quilt squares. The pattern includes written and charted instructions, links to helpful videos, and instructions to make a small practice shawl for learning the shaping. All colorwork is done via slip stitches, one color at a time.

Charts and Extras, like the practice mini-shawl, are grouped together in the pattern so that those pages can be skipped during printing.

Size: 74” (188 cm) wingspan; 37” (94 cm) depth

Yarn: Leading Men Fiber Arts Spotlight; fingering weight, 80% Blue-faced Leicester/20% nylon, 400 yards (365 m), 100 g

Colors: To fully realize the log cabin quilt motif, Color 1 should be from somewhere in the red district of the color wheel. Colors 2, 3, and 4 should be light, medium, and dark values. Solids and tonals work best. The pattern uses about 300 yards (275 m) of each color. Original shawl pictured in Poison Apple, Nude Scene, Seaweed, and Krampus. Second photo in Anne With An E, Vintage Sleigh Ride, Imperfection, and Darkest Hour.

Gauge: 25 sts and 33 rows to 4” (10 cm) in Stockinette Stitch, washed and laid flat to dry.

Needle: US 5 (3.5 mm) circular needle or size required to obtain gauge, at least 40” (100 cm) long or longer.

Other tools: stitch markers, needle for weaving in ends. Optional: scrap yarn for lifelines, crochet hook to help pick up stitches, scrap yarn and appropriate needle to work practice shawl.

This listing is for the knitting pattern only.
